INTERNATIONAL CERAMIC MARKET - HöHR-GRENZHAUSEN
Höhr-Grenzhausen
is a town in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland, Germany, roughly 10 km
north east of Koblenz. History-rich an environment of one of the
oldest and most productive early salt-glazed pottery centres in
Europe. Renowned as 'the' centre for the ceramic industry,
refractory and other, you’ll find the Westerwald Ceramic Museum
here. This museum has established itself as a centre for
Contemporary Ceramic Art.
On
entering the town, the town-wall is decorated all along it's full
length with huge Ceramic pots made by various potters of the town.
Truly an amazing entry when you come to visit. The International
Ceramics Market & Museum Festival which is held in early June
with 150 exhibitors coming from all over Europe. For example, the
United Kingdom, Spain, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Poland and
Hungary and more. Unique is THE KERAMIK GRUPPE, with Susanne
Altzweig, Monika Debus, Martin Goerg and Fritz Roßmann.
Admission
for the approximate 35,000 visitors to the market over this weekend,
is free as is the admission to the Westerwald Ceramic Museum. There
are plenty of free parking facilities.
The
German culture recognizes the Pottery and Ceramic industry as
high-end, skilled professionals, as is apparent by the Universities,
who offer this, as a University Degree. There
are Ceramic Design academies, Trade Schools and highly skilled
professional Potters giving Workshop opportunities.
